Intraocular Lenses (IOLs)

We successfully treat glaucoma for our patients. Please make an appointment today to learn more about how we can help you or your loved ones.

Light Adjustable Lenses

The latest in intraocular lens technology can allow for independence from glasses for distance and most near tasks. IOLs are placed in the eye at our Glendale office during a cataract operation to replace the function of the natural lens when it has become a cataract.

Below, you will find helpful descriptions of the many advanced intraocular lenses our eye care team in Glendale offers. If you have questions, or if you would like to schedule a cataract operation consultation to learn more, please contact us today.

Vivity IOL

The Vivity™ Extended Vision IOL is an advanced lens to allow focusing images clearly onto the back of your eye to the retina. It provides clear vision after removing cataracts. The Vivity™ IOL provides clear distance vision, for watching family and children playing in the backyard. Additionally, the Vivity™ Extended Vision IOL allows for better intermediate sight, where you can comfortably work on your computer, watch TV, or take care of makeup or shaving. It also provides some near vision compared to what a monofocal IOL would provide, so you can comfortably enjoy activities like reading or knitting. The Vivity™ lens is not a multifocal IOL, since it uses a new X-Wave™ Technology to allow for the broader range of vision.

Advanced Lenses

Advanced intraocular lenses can allow for comfortable vision at a range of distances. The latest technology in lenses provide three focal points to provide a full depth of vision. The Vivity and PanOptix lenses are the latest technology to provide quality near, intermediate and distance vision.

PanOptix

PanOptix also provides a full range of vision much like the Vivity lens. It is able to allow extended depth of vision by utilizing trifocal lens technology. The PanOptix lens is ideal for patients who are also experiencing symptoms of glaucoma or have eye conditions which need to be accounted for during treatment. Our board-certified surgeon and ophthalmologist will determine which lens is right for your treatment plan.

Toric IOLs

TORIC lenses correct astigmatism without which the eye cannot focus to a point.

Astigmatism is an imperfection curvature of the front surface of the eye which is your cornea. The TORIC lens implant is an especially designed lens that is customized to correct astigmatism, as well as nearsightedness or farsightedness. If you have astigmatism, then this needs to be corrected to give you clear vision without glasses. A TORIC lens is the best option to correct visually significant astigmatism.

The presbyopia correcting lenses also come in TORIC versions.

ORA System

In order to refine the targeted power of the eye, SoCal vision uses the ORA system during cataract surgery to improve outcomes of implanted intraocular lenses (IOLs). Real-time measurements of the power of the eye are taken during surgery which help refine the surgical plan. This technology is used to achieve better refractive outcomes for our patients.

ORA system is especially helpful when an eye has had previous refractive surgery such as LASIK or PRK. Lasik changes the shape of the cornea. The ORA system has the ability to measure the front and back power of cornea in real-time. Thus these eyes have better refractive outcomes with the aid of the ORA.

The ORA system is also a great tool for patients needing astigmatism correcting IOLs as the ORA can measure the axis of astigmatism and helps guide the proper alignment of these lenses for better overall outcomes.
